Black and Green French Mani

I was sitting around trying to figure out what to do with my nails when I saw the boxes and boxes of glitter that I bought during a sale at a craft store that I intended to use for polish frankening. Problem is, these glitters then to bleed their colour. So they got put in the bottom drawer of my Helmer until I could find a better use for them.

So I decided to see how they held up in a twist on the classic french mani. I started with two coats of Rimmel Black Cab and let it completely dry. Then I put a stripe of base coat on the ends of my nails where I wanted the glitter to go. I held my hand over a tea cup and just poured the glitter onto my nail shaking off the excess and using a dry makeup brush to remove the excess glitter above the polish line. Then I used a really think coat of Seche Vite. I think next time I would start at the tips and cover them with topcoat before coating the rest of the nail. A few loose bits of glitter escaped onto the black part, but luckily not too many. I know for next time.

I meant to finish it off with some black striping tape to make the glitter line to the polish line straight, but....I forgot. I tried before the top coat was applied but I just kept getting glitter stuck to it and then the tape wouldn't stick. So then I was going to apply after the top coat and then apply another layer of top coat as the glitter was still gritty. But I forgot and then just couldn't be bothered. I will tell you that this took forever to get off because I didn't realise that my stocks of polish remover was way down and I didn't have any acetone ones left. :(
Always make sure you have the good stuff on hand when using glitter like this.

So what do you think? Hit or miss? Hot or not?

That's it for today. Be awesome to each other.

  4. what a fantastic idea! I've got some of those $ store glitters and since they bleed, they're just sitting around. NOthing like combining the daily craft project with the daily mani! It is all kinda the same, LOL. I love this!

    Hi LWFT&T,
I don't know why I didn't think of it before. It's super easy to do. If you decide to do it, post it and let me know. I want to see how yours turn out.

  7. Thanks Lily Nail!

Pammymela, it was easy, but it gets messy unless you are prepared. Have a bowl under you and some paper towel or newspaper wouldn't go astray either.
